Today's Thing on Thursday is this unimpressive little apparatus:
It doesn't look nearly so sexy on my arm, I assure you, but it's there, nevertheless. When the man at the hospital's brace shop pulled this out and put it on my arm, I thought he was kidding. Seriously? This is supposed to help the tendonitis in my elbow?
Lo and behold, it does. For the first time in five months, I awoke this morning able to straighten my arm without whimpering.
Turns out that what I'm doing right now...typing on a laptop and using a mouse...can give a person golfer's elbow, especially when that person also spends late nights rubber stamping and cutting paper. Who knew? Anyway, as evidenced by the length of this post, I'm too electronically chatty for my own good. I don't think I can possibly go cold turkey on the blogging, but I'll try for the next week. You can rest assured I will be back.
It'll take more than a little tendonitis to shut me up for long.
I thought that WAS your arm!!! You poor thing. I'll be thinking of you, and hoping you heal quickly. Take care!
ReplyDeleteTake your rest, enjoy the sunshine, read a book, or magazine, find some inspiration, REST YOUR ARM, we want you back chatty and healthy so we can see your creations :)
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your arm, I know how painful that is having had both golfers and tennis elbow at the same time, I couldn't bend or straighten my arm. Hope you're back soon, I love your cards and take so much info from your blog that inspires me in my own cardmaking. xxx
ReplyDeleteI've had a couple of bouts of golfers elbow too - I find comfrey oitment from the herbalist (in the UK) to be most soothing and found it allowed me to continue stamping and blogging against Drs orders ;-) Not that I am saying you should go against your Drs, but you know, when the stamps call and you can't drown out their screams, the ointment helps......
ReplyDeleteHope you are on the mend soon.
Take care of you & your arm! Hope to see you healthy & back on your blogs soon. Love your cards & your posts! ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I am sorry about your elbow, I hope your recovery is speedy. Our pastor's wife is sporting the same brace on her arm and is unable to play piano.
ReplyDeleteBy the way I am loving "The Help"; it is hard to get anything else done!
I was going to say, "My, but you are HAWT!" heh heh Heal well and come back when you are ready.
ReplyDeleteI hope you're able to at least enjoy your forced blogging vacation. I had terrible wrist/elbow tendinitis after having my son, but wasn't able to get rid of it until he learned to walk and gave up his bottle. Not coincidentally, my paper crafting efforts increased around that time too. Feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteOuch! So sorry to hear about your elbow. Computers and mice have a lot to answer for (for all that we love them). I had a case of frozen thumb several years ago - it was caused by the mouse. The solution for me (after being splinted and injected with cortisone) was a trackball mouse - my hand loves it and I'd never go back to a regular mouse again!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you have had some relief from the pain! You'll have to get Dragon so you can speak and the computer will type for you :) Hope you get better soon!
ReplyDeleteI had such years before with operation- so- take care and dont typ too much!
ReplyDeleteelborgi
So sorry to hear your bad news Susan. There are some great ideas here, and I hope you recover quickly.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you are taking care of your arm. I had a terrible time with mine a couple of years ago. One of the things that really has helped is a mouse pad with a bump for resting your wrist. The support that it gives my arm has helped me to remain pain-free and still use my computer!
ReplyDeleteJanet
Take care of yourself and have a good rest. We will be here when you get back.
ReplyDeleteMyrna
So sorry for your pain! My licensed massage therapist always suggests Arnica Gel, a homeopathic pain relieving gel or cream. Mine is made in France, company name is Boiron, purchased at health food store. Please do rest your arm and let it receive all of the healing thoughts that are coming your way from all of your many fans!

Hope you get better. Those funny looking arm things do work. I got tendonitis in my elbow after using a thumb punch like 250 times punching out leaves for my daughter's scout troop. The things we do to ourselves while crafting. Anyway, take care of yourself. Hope you are healthy and back to blogging soon.
ReplyDeleteWe're going to miss you, Susan. Take care of your arm so that you can be back quickly!
ReplyDeleteI sympathize completely, as I presently have a frozen shoulder. This will give you an opportunity to catch up on the R&R (unless, as Craftilicious said, you can hear the stamps screaming. That made me laugh so hard I almost fell of the chair!!). Wishing you a speed recovery!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear all this!!!! Take care!!!
ReplyDeleteAfter listening to my complaints and symptoms, my brother-in-law (who owns a sporting goods store)gave me one of those. Pain free for the first time in months. I had developed tennis elbow while freehand machine quilting. However, too much nerve damage had already happened, and I ended up having to have surgery. Which is why I have a 4" scar above my left elbow, and a 6" scar on the inside of my left arm. Which is why I no longer sew. At all. Follow the doctor's orders and hopefully you can avoid going through what I went through.
ReplyDeleteTake care and get better, Susan - but know you'll be missed!! Hope you can record or jot down your ideas in the meantime.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear abt that. You'll bounce back quickly :)
ReplyDeleteYou will be missed big time on my reader!
Take care.
All the best. Resting now will probably be of most help in the long term.
ReplyDeleteI had biceps tendonitis last year. It's amazing how much you do with your arms when they hurt like mad.
Wishing you a speedy recovering.
Hope it heals up quickly! Speech recognition software has come a long way, you know - good solution for getting text into a computer in a hands-free fashion :o)
ReplyDeleteTake care Susan. Hope all goes well in the next week. You should be able to create a lot of new things to share with us by then. Will miss reading your constructive thoughts, but know its for the best. Will be praying for your healing.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about that! Praying for your complete recovery! Take care...
ReplyDeleteHey Sister, I feel for you and know how difficult this is. I broke my Right arm last summer. I learned to stamp with my left. LOL.
ReplyDeleteacccck, the doctors offices must be seeing an increase in business with all the people stamping and blogging these days. Never, thought of that!
ReplyDeleteI'll miss your posts, but it's more important for you to get healthy! And I know that little brace looks quite unimpressive, but one of my bowling teammates wears one and can't believe what a difference it makes. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteSusan, I'll miss both your columns; I enjoy each so much. But listen to the doctor (and to your arm!), and do what you're supposed to so you'll get well. Good thing George can cook! Hmmmm.....take advantage of this situation to catch up on your reading, your mint juleps, your actual phone calls to friends & family instead of e-mail. I hope you don't have too much withdrawal.
ReplyDeleteEspero que te repongas muy pronto Susan. Voy a extrañarte mucho tus correos diarios y tu hermoso trabajo. Pero la salud primero y pido a Dios que pronto estés bien nuevamente. Un gran cariño desde Argentina.
ReplyDeleteFeel better soon.
ReplyDeleteMillions of us will miss all your blogs and cards, but know we care and wish for you fast and complete healing. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteWow, I didn't know this new hobby of mine was DANGEROUS....HMMMM, is this common? I'm sorry, this is not about me...it's about you... ;) I hope you get better real soon to play. ;) But...a question...IS THERE A WAY TO PREVENT IT FROM HAPPENING???? Give us all the tips when you get back. ;)
ReplyDeleteWhen you are back at it...try left-hand "mouseing." I worked with/on computers my entire working career. The first day I got a mouse, it made my hand and arm hurt. Switching the mouse to my left hand really worked for me. I wasn't giving up stamping or horseback riding. An added benefit is that no one wants to use your computer because the buttons are reversed...LOL. Anyway, get better.
ReplyDeleteYou deserve a break!! I get the same ailment, but mine is from pulling those wretched and eternal weeds! I like the causes of your condition much better. Relax and let the healing begin, but make sure you write down all those marvelous ideas that will continue to roll around in your melon! Better yet, get someone to take dictation -- you shouldn't be writing, either!
ReplyDeleteDo as the doctor says so you can get back here quickly!!!! You will be missed....get well soon.
ReplyDeleteBummer! Worth it if it helps with the pain though! Hope to see you again soon....
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteJust think of this week as 'down time'. Everything, even a human, needs it to regenerate. Take care.
ReplyDeleteFeel better and take care of that arm. You'll be back on the 'golf course' in no time! HUGS, Audrie
ReplyDeleteYou take all the time you need!! We want you back better than ever when you return!!
ReplyDeleteTake good care Susan. I'll miss your blog and card making designs. It's the first I open each day.
ReplyDeleteUnderstand! Embossing on parchment caused me to have carpel tunnel. Also understand the pain as I remember waking up in severe pain also. Take care of that arm!!!
ReplyDeleteWill miss you! I have started using my mouse and keyboard in my lap and it really does help my shoulder and elbow --- but this computer work is not the best thing for my wrists! My friends and I are starting to sound like my parents with all of us talking about our various ailments - hehe!
ReplyDeleteThat arm thingy worked for my husband. He also used the thingy that you squeeze with your hand and it helped too.
ReplyDeleteTake care and hurry back.
Laine
Hope you are feeling better soon. Hugs from Michigan!
ReplyDeleteI love starting my day admiring what you have created, I'll miss you. Take care!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteDespite being right handed, I use my mouse with my left hand, switching the buttons over - helps no end.
Hugs, Sandra
OOh Poor you, I've had it and it's not funny. Mine was too much badminton but it will only heal if you stop doing what made it bad in the first place:{ I really hope it stops hurting soon. I'm going to miss your funny and informative posts, get well soon Gay xxx
ReplyDeleteFeel better soon, you always bring a smile to my face with your chat

Hate to hear about your tendonitis. Take good care of yourself and don't try to do too much too soon. We'll miss you.
ReplyDeleteJust returned from family reunion in FL, looking forward to catching up on your blogs. Bummer! Please follow Dr's orders so you can feel better soonest! {{{hugs}}}
ReplyDeleteYou will be sorely missed. Did that pun hurt?
ReplyDeleteI was thinking voice recognition software, but I know absolutely nothing about it. And how would you do the cards?
I think if I need Susan R. fix, I will just do some digging in the archives--looking at what you posted a year ago today, or two years ago, etc.
Hope you are feeling much better very soon.
Hope to see you back in action real soon! Take care!
