Things on Thursday: Diverse Interests

A reader recommended the newest biography on Martha Washington, and as I'm always open to new things and had just finished reading Water for Elephants, I immediately looked for it out on my Nook Tablet. Sure enough, it was there. I bought it and started reading it. It's really good. Thanks, Mary!

I've been wanting to read Tina Fey's Bossypants for a while. Then I saw this pin on Pinterest, which made me shout Amen, sister!, especially the part about doll tits. Who really has these...without the aid of a plastic surgeon?!?!

Click on the photo to see it bigger.

An elephant (who was smart and vengeful), Martha Washington (who was smart and stacked) and Tina Fey (who is smart and funny).

My world is smartly diverse.

Please share with the internet an example of your diverse interests...in books or other things.

  1. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Tina Fey's book. I was on a long across-the-Pacific flight and found I was laughing when all around me were trying to sleep, so I put away the book until breakfast, then had a good laugh while trying to eat inedible eggs.

  2. My interests are sooo diverse; I have a hard time staying focused. I love good biographys, smutty romances, spy thrillers and murder mysteries. I do not like books that make me afraid to be alone in my house at night.

Food! I love Lebanese, Thai, Italian, what my mama cooked and what I'm still learning to cook. I'm happy with a can of Campbells tomato soup or the $8 bowl of Lobster Bisque at our local bistro.

I could go on and on....but I think diversity is wonderful!

  3. Two thoughts:

    - My music collection (the physical one, not just the random tracks I've collected on iTunes) holds things like Beethoven, Anne Murray, Metallica, The Dixie Chics, and Green Day. I think almost every genre is represented, even gangsta rap. My tastes have settled some as I've aged, but I still have a deep appreciation for all the difference kinds of music in the soundtrack of my life.

    - Doll boobs aren't even possible with the help of a plastic surgeon. I can't tell you how many awful boob jobs I saw when researching my own (a reduction).

  4. I'm a retired middle school teacher, and I'm rereading "Woodsong" by Gary Paulsen because it's February, and the Iditarod starts the first Saturday in March. This was our read aloud for the Reading/Writing workshop for years. It's a terrific memoir of smart dogs and a not so smart dog owner.

  5. I read Tina Fey's book and laughed and laughed. I love her.

How am I diverse? Yesterday I bought a handful of trashy romances from the library's second-hand book store. I'll start one right after I finish my current book, the one about funeral culture in America. I think that is a pretty good example. I try to also eat a diverse array of breakfast cereals. Ha!

  6. How about music - my two favourites are Bach and Bowie. Maybe not diverse enough, since they both start with B?
    LOL!

  7. As a librarian, I have to read diversely-the last three books were Shooting Kabul (a kid's book-not what it sounds like) Union Quilt, and Buddha in the Attic. Really recommend the last, a short but effective novel about the Japanese picture brides that came in the early 1900's. Really gripping.

The diversity in life comes from helping my husband in the lab, grading exams to cooking and paper crafting-too much richness to be bored!
