Count Me In

Heather Armstrong's blog makes me so happy. Today's post couldn't have been better timed, either, since I'm coming off a three-day weekend during which my children bickered nonstop, the dog ate several dish towels, my husband talked at the dinner table about popping zits, and my head exploded like the much-discussed zit several times.

The Quiet

  1. i agree 100%, i'd be their #1 fan LOL

i had an mri thursday and the tech and dr commented on how still i had been while in the chamber (of doom, HELLO, that thing) and i commented on how it was actually kind of relaxing to listen to music really really loud and not have to worry about someone falling down the stairs or catching the sofa on fire...almost the same thing, but no LOL

  3. I'll meet you there.

Some people find it surprising that I don't mind a trip the dentist as I get to lie back and do nothing for half an hour! Once I almost fell asleep.

  4. I am sitting here in the quiet of my house for the first time in 9 days. My kids were off all last week as Atlanta was shut down by snow and ice. I could sit here all day. And I can relate to Heather with trips to the dentist. When my kids were real little it was an hour in a chair, reasonably quiet and no one asked me to get them anything. Certainly something like that would never happen at home.

  5. The Toad (aka DH) always wonders why I don't turn on any music when I'm at home or when I go walking. I totally get the "quiet". When I'm walking, I can just listen to my thoughts. At home, it is a sound that is NEVER heard when the boys (including DH) are home.

  6. Yep, I'm in the camp for quiet walking too. I'm out three times a day walking Annies and you miss so much (IMO) when you have earplugs in. My DH can't understand why I don't like music blasting out first thing in the morning until he was home 24/7.

  7. Susan, that was great - especially all the comments on there! I don't have kids, so can't relate to the day to day noise thing. However, I have been a fan of the Quiet all my life, it's my favourite thing!

  8. LOVE that you have to sit there for as long as you are old. What a great philosophy!

  9. When I was in the thick of things with my kids when they were younger, I felt pushed to the very slippery edge of what I could endure. My husband travels a lot with his work and also has a long train commute that he does daily. He has a demanding job, long days, and lots of jetlag, but I used to envy him that 2+ hours on the train every day--the ability to sit in silence and just BE. And just the IDEA of staying in a hotel room for days on end. Being able to go to bed and know you wouldn't have to get up in the night and tend to someone. Having a spotless, uncluttered, freshly-cleaned space to retreat to at the end of the day. Ahhhhhhh...
