"No man needs a vacation so much as the person who has just had one." Elbert Hubbard
I would qualify this by saying that our vacation has been delightful, but the two-day drive back home will definitely make me want another vacation.
A stay-cation.
Did you take a vacation this summer? If so, where did you go and what was most relaxing about it? What was least relaxing?
I love that quote. It is so true. We go to our cottage in Michigan every summer for two months. Most relaxing was just the slow pace, allowing the kids just to be kids. They play with friends, hang out and entertain themselves. No driving them around from one activity to another activity. The least relaxing part, is that I still have to cook, clean and do laundry. Tomorrow I start my 2 day drive home. So I know what you mean about wanting another vacation.
ReplyDeletePerfect quote...absolutely true! I just got home from a 2-week vacation to northern Ontario, Canada. Had a wonderful time - beautiful weather, swimming, boating, crafting - until the day we were heading home. The car wouldn't start! Had it towed to town along dirt roads and found out it wouldn't be fixed for several days. So my husband and I - and our two dogs - had to hitch a ride with my parents. All our luggage, van, boat, etc. stayed in Canada! Everything is back home now after my husband took a train and a bus to travel back up north to get the car! My Dad kept saying, "We'll be laughing about all of this at Christmas!" I'm laughing already. :)
ReplyDeleteI took a wonderful bike trip along the GAP trail in Pennsylvania with an old high school friend and enjoyed fresh air, ice cream and laughter like no other vacation in a long time. I didn't have to cook, clean, or make sure my kids ate their vegetables! How much more relaxing can it get. I have learned throughout the years to always allow 1-2 days upon returning home to decompress (i.e. do laundry!) before returning to work.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like your family is having a wonderful time. Enjoy the trip home since school is right around the corner.
Nope! No trips this summer. But I have enjoyed just being home and getting some things done.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I'm saying this. Never thought I would. I just want to stay HOME for a stretch! We went to Virginia for a funeral in June and a visit, to Florida in July for a family reunion and a visit with our son and his family, on a cruise in July with our daughter and her family, and in the two weeks between that and going to Hawaii, I just spent four days in Virginia with my mother and sister. All good things, but too much!!! It was not relaxing. I really need Hawaii for that. I'm shipping myself a flat-rate box of books that I haven't had time to read. You'll find me on the beach like the Zac Brown Band says, "Toes in the water, a$$ in the sand," but instead of a cold beer, I'll have a book in my hand.
ReplyDeleteThat quote really sums it up! Any vacation with my family makes me feel that way. This summer I didn't go anywhere, which is just fine with me. I went to Germany earlier this year to visit my family and it was a nice break for me, since I went by myself. I stayed with my sister, who cooked many great meals for me. We walked a lot, ate alot and I got to visit with all my siblings and their families. I also had a get together with my high school girl friends. The least relaxing thing about that trip was the flight. 8 1/2 hours on a plane sitting next to strangers is so uncomfortable, and I never sleep on planes. Of course it was still worth it anyway, I had a lovely time there. I actually had tears running down my cheeks when the plane landed in Munich, because I hadn't been home in so long.

We took a special trip this summer with my parents and my sisters and their families. It was our parents' choice for their 50th anniversary celebration, instead of having a reception with punch and handshakes. We stayed at a great resort that had so many things to do that we hardly ventured off the property at all. My favorite thing was floating in a tube on the "lazy river". And the best part of that was the bartender situated right on the river banks. Who knew how relaxing it would be to float along in the shade, drinking pina coladas, chatting with my sisters? Definitely a great time for all of us.
ReplyDeleteOur vacation was a day on Mount Evans (Colorado) photographing alpine wild flowers. Neither of us mentioned work or the various other stressors that confound our daily thoughts. We had lunch at the lodge, and stopped back later for dessert. Absolutely heaven-including the 50 degree temperatures at the top! Coming back into Denver's 90+ degrees was a bit of a bummer, but doable.
