Things on Thursday: Modern Art

The kids' art projects are always fun, but this is my favorite ever. Nick recently made this wonderful piece of paper sculpture. It has such a dynamic quality, the colors are fun and balanced, and its asymmetry says a lot about Nick's sense of creativity and energy. He is so NOT mini-me (the AR/OCD stamper) or mini-George (the nature photographer). He captured his essence in this piece of art, and I cherish it.

What piece of art in your home makes you happy? Why?

  1. Your art is beautiful! Something like that is worth more than a Picasso in my opinion! Lucky you! We have a Christmas ornament that we take out each year and hang on the FRONT of the tree. It is a hodgepodge of items that DD put together and hung on a piece of plain curling ribbon. I'm sure that many over the years have wondered why we would hang something like that on our tree. I'll bet YOU don't wonder! Love your artwork, dear friend!

  2. Wow, what a TREASURE from Nick.
Not sure if this qualifies as art but my husband, Jim, bought Happy birthday banners one year at the dollar store. He wanted to surprise my 2nd son who was going through a difficult time (he was 28 at the time). Balloons, banners, the whole sha-bang. His birthday is in January but we never got around to taking the banners down. 2 May birthdays, a September birthday, 2 November birthdays...all of us enjoyed the birthday banners (got new balloons though cause they originals deflated!!!) It is 3 1/2 years later and the banners are still up. Somehow there is a sense of stability in them...no matter what the circumstances we all know Dad loves us and does everything he can to bring us joy.
So like our heavenly Father whose eyes roam over the whole earth to encourage His people in order to strengthen them. 2 Chrn 16:9

  3. My 4-year-old brought this home from preschool around Mother's Day: two outlines of little hands joined by a length of yarn. "This is how much I love you", he said, holding it out to me.

    That is my favorite.
